Hey, I have always wanted to get into making music but I have no idea where to start. What is the best program to use when starting out? I know a little about some programs like MAGIX Music Maker and FL Studios but never actually got anything done on them. I get lost when trying to make something in them. Does anyone have some tips or something that could help me? Thanks ~

I started out with Mixcraft, its a pretty simple program, it took me only a couple of hours to understand how to use it! You cant really pirate it though, due to its annoying anti-piracy measures. I'd recommend getting the demo and then moving onto albeton live 9, which is what I did (And its easier to pirate!). Mixcraft is wonderful, but not worth its price at all.
I have no idea how anyone makes anything in FL studios, it has such a strange layout. I've had it for a couple of months and I still don't understand how to use it properly!

i've never really understood people saying FL's layout doesnt make sense, and i've always heard it's the easiest DAW to work with...but i guess it's just not for everyone? shrug
i was going to recommend LMMS, as it's free and is fairly in-depth (plus it's what i started with) but as it's designed to copy FL maybe that's not a good idea...

I just don't have any experience with FL, there is a lot of things thrown at you when you try to use it. So many buttons and nobs its just kind of confusing for a beginner. I guess I just need more practice with it or something.

To start FL all you really need is tutorial just to start. I know a couple people who use Reason but that's more hardware based. FL is more software based and Ableton is something I tried but never really got the hang of it. I'm planning to try Cubase which sounds ok I guess. In my opinion I'd say it would be good to look up a tutorial on FL or just find a DAW that is free like LMMS.

Alright that sounds pretty good, is there any tutorials you would recommend? I have just played around in it a bit and it seemed a little too complicated, but I will try to get into using it.

I am going to assume so because I have seen Reason 7. Reason 7 looks so ridiculous.

yea. logic/reason, ableton, pro tools, cubase...they're all great programs but all ridiculously complex to beginners

I'm seeing people talk about how weird FL Studio is and I'm laughing! I use that mostly, but I started out with a dumbed-down freeware linux ripoff called LMMS and the transition when i changed computers was really smooth since they're really similar (except FL Studio is more complicated because it has more features and when you use it you only need a small portion of them depending on whatever.) Other than that, I use celemony melodyne and audacity, and even garageband when i'm at school because it has really good instruments despite being INCREDIBLY limited, though I haven't used it in a long time because of that. It's all a very simple little arsenal, but that's because I'm poor and my current computer processor sucks XD 6-6;;
but seriously, if you can get LMMS to run, I recommend it beyond a shadow of a doubt. but if you want to jump right into and learn FL Studio, know what you want to do first and look up how to do it on youtube. go little by little. It's not all that difficult once you know the workspace.
