Video games?

the persona series is part of the shin megami tensei titles (if that sounds familiar at all) developed by atlus and while they all have a similar premise in gameplay (using personas to fight monsters) the plot is so varied for each game installment (once you get past how almost every protag is a transfer student and probably a silent protag) and the supporting characters are very different and memorable, whether it be personality or overall design. 

the most popular ones are typically said to be 3 and 4 (and a fifth one should be coming out soon) because they were released around the time most of us would be early to mid-teens (late 2007 and late 2008 respectively) and were both for PS2. earlier titles were for i think the original PS1, including the original persona, and two titles under persona 2

Persona 3 you are a transfer student in a town where your parents died a decade ago, and through a series of events you are thrown into a school club where you learn about personas and explore the realm of tartarus upon discovering something known as the dark hour (which is a way of saying the apocalypse). it is your job to find a way to stop the dark hour from happening by defeating shadows (monsters) and greater shadows (bosses).

Persona 4 you are a transfer student who moves in with their police uncle and younger cousin. around town there have been a lot of gruesome murders and nobody really knows why or who the culprit is. after making friends you learn of something called the midnight channel, where you see cryptic images and scenes on television whenever it rains at midnight. you and your friends believe the midnight channel has something to do with the murders, but it's your job to find out how and why.
